The following image from Esri's ArcGIS Help, enabled me to visually understand the Curvature function. The middle feature in the top row depicts the values of the curvature function for both the LiDAR DEM and SRTM DEM in my comparison, where both DEMs reported negative values for profile and plan as part of the curvature function's report (upwardly convex - flow decelerated and laterally concave - converging).
